Transmissions for every major make

Chevrolet's transmission lineup covers everything from compact car CVTs to heavy-duty truck automatics. The 8L90 8-speed automatic (paired with the 5.3L and 6.2L V8) is our most requested Chevy transmission — it serves the Silverado 1500, Tahoe, Suburban, and Camaro SS. The 6L80/6L90 6-speed served the same applications from 2007–2019 and remains a high-volume unit. For heavy-duty trucks, we carry the Allison 1000 6-speed for the 2500HD and 3500HD.

On the car and crossover side, the 9T50/9T65 9-speed automatic serves the Equinox, Blazer, and Traverse, while the older 6T40/6T70 served previous-generation Equinox, Malibu, and Impala. The Cruze used the 6T35 and the 9T50. Every unit ships with torque converter, verified mileage, and our standard warranty.

Common Chevrolet Transmission Issues

These are the most frequent reasons Chevrolet owners need a replacement transmission.

8L90 — Torque Converter Shudder & Harsh Shifts: The 8L90 in 2015–2019 Silverados and Tahoes developed widespread torque converter shudder between 1st and 2nd gear and during light-throttle lockup. GM issued a Technical Service Bulletin calling for a fluid change to a reformulated ATF, but many transmissions were already damaged internally. A replacement with the updated fluid specification resolves the issue.

6L80 — Harsh 1-2 Shift & Converter Clutch Slip: The 6L80 develops a characteristically harsh 1-2 upshift and torque converter clutch slip at higher mileages. The valve body bore wear creates internal pressure loss that cannot be fixed with a fluid change alone. A replacement with fresh valve body bores and clutch packs is the comprehensive solution.

6T40/6T70 — Wave Plate Fracture: The 6T40 and 6T70 in 2008–2017 Equinox, Malibu, and Impala models can develop a fractured 3-5-R wave plate that causes loss of third, fifth, and reverse gears. This is an internal failure that requires transmission replacement.

Chevrolet Transmission — Quick Answers

Do Chevy truck transmissions come with the torque converter?

Yes — every Silverado, Tahoe, and Suburban transmission ships with the matching torque converter included. The 8L90 and 6L80 are complete assemblies ready for installation.

Is the 8L90 shudder fixable without replacing the transmission?

In many cases, GM recommended a fluid change to reformulated ATF (Mobil 1 Synthetic LV HP). If caught early before internal damage occurs, this can resolve the shudder. If the shudder persists after the fluid change, the torque converter clutch is damaged and replacement is the reliable solution.

Do you carry Allison transmissions for the HD trucks?

Yes — we stock the Allison 1000 6-speed for Silverado/Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD across both gas (6.0L/6.6L) and Duramax diesel applications. These are OEM units, not aftermarket rebuilds.
